Tessa Charlesworth’s research addresses how and why biased thoughts (beliefs) and feelings (attitudes) of social groups change. Why do some biases progress towards tolerance while others increase in hostility? What kinds of events, policies, and psychological interventions in society can help reduce prejudice, discrimination, and stigma in both the short term and long term? She uses multiple methods (from psychology and sociology to computer science and history) across multiple levels of analysis (from the individual to the workplace to the broader culture) with the ultimate goal of understanding how to improve intergroup attitudes and interactions in the future.
