I study person-situation interactions from the trait activation perspective (i.e., how personality traits become activated in the presence of relevant situational affordances). As an example, it has been theorized that situations of exploration – situations that enable people to explore or enjoy art, nature, and/or unusual ideas or people – activate trait Openness to Experience, such that those high on the trait would express creative behaviors. Person-organization fit can be conducive to help one retrieve meaning, thrive and flourish at work. Trait activation is thus highly relevant for organizatinal settings, with personnel selection and job crafting in particular.
